Florida Moving Checklist — Plan a Smooth Statewide Move
Moving within Florida means planning around summer heat, hurricane season, long Turnpike and I-95 drives, and the COI rules that come with condo and HOA living. This checklist keeps a South Florida, Central Florida or Gulf Coast move organized from the first phone call to the last box.
4–6 weeks out
Lock in your move date and request a clear written quote. If you are leaving or entering a condo or HOA community, ask the association about Certificate of Insurance requirements and any move-in windows. Move Mi provides COIs on request at no charge once we have your building's form.
2–3 weeks out
Schedule transfers for power (FPL, Duke or your local co-op), water, internet and trash. File a change of address with USPS and update your Florida driver's license and vehicle registration deadlines. Start packing non-essentials room by room.
1 week out
Confirm crew size and arrival window, set aside a hurricane-style essentials kit (water, chargers, documents, medications), and plan for the heat by keeping cold drinks ready for the loading hours. Move day

When is the best time of year to move in Florida?
Many people prefer the cooler, drier months from late fall through early spring. Summer moves are common too — just plan around afternoon thunderstorms and the heat by starting early in the day.
Should I worry about hurricane season when moving?
Hurricane season runs June through November. Keep flexibility in your date during peak storm activity, and pack an essentials kit with documents, water and chargers in case of delays.
Do I need a COI for a Florida condo or HOA move?
Many condo and HOA communities require a Certificate of Insurance before a move. Send us your association's requirements early and we will prepare the COI at no charge before move day.
