Elevator Reservation Moving Guide
In Miami's high-rises and condo towers, the freight elevator is the single biggest factor in how smoothly a move goes. Buildings in Brickell, Downtown, Edgewater and Aventura typically allow only one move at a time and require an advance reservation. Here is how to lock in your window and avoid costly delays.
Why a freight elevator matters
Passenger elevators are usually off-limits for moves to protect finishes and other residents. The freight elevator is larger, padded, and reserved for one unit at a time — which is why missing your window can push a move by hours or even a full day.
How to reserve your window
Contact building management as soon as your date is set and ask for the move policy: available days, time blocks, padding, and any COI or deposit requirements. Many buildings limit moves to weekdays or specific hours, so confirm before you finalize your crew.
Avoiding month-end congestion
The 1st and last days of the month are the busiest for elevator bookings because most leases turn over then. If you have flexibility, a mid-month or mid-week move usually means easier scheduling and less waiting.
Move-day coordination
Move Mi coordinates freight elevator and parking access directly with building management so the padded elevator is ready when the crew arrives. We send a COI on request at no charge to satisfy the building's paperwork ahead of time.
Frequently asked questions
How long can I reserve a freight elevator for?
It varies by building — many offer 2–4 hour blocks. Ask management for the available window and share it with us so we can size the crew to finish in time.
What happens if I miss my elevator window?
You may have to wait for the next available slot, which can delay the whole move. Booking the right window and starting on time is the best way to avoid this.
Does the building need a COI before reserving the elevator?
Often yes. Many buildings require a Certificate of Insurance on file before they confirm the reservation. We provide COIs at no charge once we have the building's requirements.
