Commercial Office Moving Checklist
A commercial move has more moving parts than a home relocation: minimizing downtime, coordinating IT, managing building access in two locations, and keeping staff productive. This checklist helps Miami-area businesses plan an office move that's organized and low-disruption.
Plan early and assign a coordinator
Office moves benefit from a single point of contact who owns the timeline. Start 6–8 weeks out, inventory furniture and equipment, and decide what to keep, replace or dispose of. Communicate the plan to staff so everyone knows their role.
Coordinate building access at both sites
Commercial buildings in Brickell and Downtown Miami often require after-hours or weekend moves, reserved freight elevators, and a Certificate of Insurance for both the origin and destination. Move Mi provides COIs on request at no charge and coordinates freight and dock access with building management.
Handle IT and workstations
Back up data before move day and label workstations, cables and equipment so they reassemble quickly. Coordinate with your IT team or provider on disconnect and reconnect timing so the team is back online with minimal downtime.
Move day and reopening
Schedule the move outside business hours when possible to protect productivity. Our crews blanket-wrap furniture and load clean trucks, then place items by labeled zone at the new office so staff can settle in fast. Do a final walkthrough at the old space to confirm nothing is left behind.
Frequently asked questions
How far ahead should we plan an office move?
Start 6–8 weeks out for most small-to-midsize offices. Larger relocations or those with heavy IT needs benefit from even more lead time.
Can you move our office after hours to avoid downtime?
Yes. Many Miami commercial buildings require after-hours or weekend moves anyway, and scheduling outside business hours keeps your team productive.
Do commercial buildings require a COI?
Most do, often for both the origin and destination. We provide Certificates of Insurance at no charge once we have each building's requirements.
